The Western Cape Government released their latest anti-texting advert. Tagged #ItCanWait. It follows a similar ‘It Can Wait’ campaign by the Australian government. It’s hard hitting and many are calling it controversial.
It seems many brands are following this technique of confronting story telling. Recently aired on TV is the latest OUTsurance advert which is equally causing many to raise concerns about the timing and type of messaging. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch it here.
South African road accidents are on the rise. There is no doubt that smartphones play a large part in the rise of these stats (not excluding reckless and drink driving). Is it time to place hard hitting adverts in the public, to make people aware that using a phone whilst driving can result in dire consequences. The latest festive season saw alone 1,700 people die on South African roads.
Has the Western Cape Government taken it too far with their latest ad. Is it sparking debate or creating well deserved awareness? Let us know in the comments.
